• A Grade Balsa Sheet Wood

  SLEC A Grade Balsa Sheet is carefully selected and processed from quality balsa timber to provide model builders with consistent, reliable material for a wide range of applications. Unlike many suppliers, we process our own balsa timber in-house, allowing us to control the quality, thickness and finish of every sheet we produce.

  Our balsa is available in soft, medium and hard grades, enabling modellers to choose the correct density and strength for every part of their project. Each sheet is precision cut, planed and sanded to provide an accurate thickness and a smooth finish, making it ready for model aircraft construction, repairs, scratch building and countless other modelling applications.

  Choosing the correct grade of balsa is essential to achieving the best balance of strength and weight.

  • Soft Balsa – Ideal for lightweight structures, sheeting, infill and areas where minimum weight is important.
  • Medium Balsa – A versatile all-round grade suitable for the majority of model aircraft construction.
  • Hard Balsa – Best suited to high-stress areas such as spars, longerons, leading edges, trailing edges and structural components requiring additional strength.

  As balsa is a natural material, variations in grain, colour and density are to be expected. These natural characteristics are part of what makes balsa such an outstanding modelling material. Every sheet is carefully graded to ensure it meets our quality standards before being prepared for sale.

  Please note: Cross-grain (C-grain) balsa sheet can be requested by adding a note in the Order Notes section at checkout. Wherever possible, we will select suitable sheets to meet your requirements, subject to stock availability.
